Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport: record-breaking passenger numbers for Georgia’s second-largest airport

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is the biggest airport in eastern Georgia, notching up a record-breaking tally of just under 2.5 million passengers in 2017. Over 20 destinations are directly served from SAV, from Denver to Boston and Miami. The southeast and eastern seaboard are particularly well connected. Atlanta, Charlotte and JFK are the top three routes. There is also a seasonal non-stop service to Toronto. Savannah Airport is thought to be the only airport in the USA to have gravestones embedded in its runway. The graves, belonging to the Dotson family, were discovered during the runway’s construction and it was decided to leave them undisturbed. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is located 8 miles northwest of Savannah city center and it can be accessed from downtown via GA-21N in about 18 to 40 minutes. From the west or the north, head for I-95 (exit 104).

The CAT 100X Airport express runs from the Joe Murray Rivers Transit Center to the airport 7 times a day Monday to Saturday, and half a dozen times on Sundays. The trip takes 25 minutes. Lyft and Uber both operate at the airport, as do taxis, limos and private shuttles.
