Tan Son Nhat International Airport: Vietnam’s fast-growing principal airport

Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is the busiest airport in Vietnam and the 24th-busiest in Asia (as of 2017). Its total of nearly 36 million passengers represented a 10.5% increase on the previous year’s passenger traffic. There is substantial passenger traffic between SGN and Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, as well as popular coastal tourist destination, Da Nang. Well over 30 international destinations are served from SGN, with Asian airports to the fore (Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Seoul.) Paris Charles de Gaulle is the top European destination, with Air France offering a non-stop flight between the French and Vietnamese cities, enabling travellers to tap into Air France’s network of over 200 routes all over the world. Air France has also teamed up with Vietnam Airlines to offer additional flights to the French capital.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s entrance is off Truong Son street. It is also accessed from National Route 1A (QL1A). From City Hall it’s a 15 to 40 minute drive. Parking includes a five storey parking garage, constructed in 2016, with a 10,000 daily vehicle capacity.

Bus route number 109 (yellow line) runs from the city centre (starting at 23rd September Park bus terminal) to the airport in around 45 minutes (departures every 15 to 30 minutes). The 49 bus also runs to the airport but operates as a hotel shuttle bus service. The 152 airport bus service is another (slower but cheaper) option.
